Musical portrait in literature (on the example of the works of P. Myrny, M. Kotsyubynsky, P. Tychyna)

Abstract

Since ancient times, science has an interest in the relationship of literature with other arts, but still the problem of the study of this combination remains relevant
because today this phenomen is not covered. European tradition attributed it to the field of aesthetics, American scientific thought – to literature.The article deals with the synthesis of the arts as a typical need of culture, which aims to increase interest in enhancing the visual qualities of art works. In terms of addressing this issue, it is appropriate to use the term «multimedia», which means the combination of two or more media that are simultaneously perceived by different sensory organs. «Media» is not only a medium of communication, but also a symbolic system of various arts (a kind of channels of transmission of figurative «information»). The main points are provided in the review of the genre of musical portraiture in the aspect of inter-branch relations, in particular the musical, fine and literary arts. By definition, a portrait is a depictionof a person’s appearance, his facial features, facial expressions, eyes, postures, features of movements, his clothes, and shoes. The hero and so on. A musical portrait is a musical-artistic image of a particular personality, both real (or existing) and fictional, which has become the central theme of the work. Literature (both fine and musical art) contains inexhaustible possibilities of reproducing the multifaceted nature and complexity of human nature.
Analyzing the prose of the nineteenth century, it becomes apparent that to replace the picturesque portrait that dominated the romantic literature (where music belonged to a prominent place), comes portrait psychological, that is, a work that not only conveys the appearance of the characters, but also their character, mental state.
