The phenomenon of regency in the coordinate system of Ukrainian Orthodox singing tradition
Abstract
The aim of this paper is discovery of the ways to meet the complex challenges and demands that regents face nowadays and directing them to the choice of musical worship. Providing analytics related to the study of the musical and logical specificity of church choral performance. The author has used investigation of church choral singing development, drawing on its own experience of
church registration, analyzing systematic observations on the singing organization in different localities, identifying the most important factors affecting the work of the regent, reveal the phenomenon of choir management in the context of its structural features. During promotion of the Orthodox masterpieces, modern choral professionals should understand the specifics of performing these songs in the context of musical liturgy. Regent’s attention should be focused on the formation of a specific repertoire of the appropriate type of worship, and it is necessary to observe the characteristic features of sacral choral stylistics, offering their own interpretations as well as preserving the authenticity of the composer’s design. There are several scientific papers which presents the problem of regency. However, all available scientific developments only indirectly reveal the topic of our research. Therefore, the formulated problem requires additional analysis, decoding, logical reasoning which we offer. Nowadays the interest towards Ukrainian Orthodoxy is considerably increasing. Such a music-aesthetic phenomenon as church music maximizes the religious-ceremonial effect and the role of the regent is extremely important, since his function is to form the necessary conditions for this type of music playing, from the creation of the appropriate artistic environment to the full adaptation of it into the sacred space of the cult ritual.
