Vasil Pachovsky's contribution to the development of the literary fairy tale in transcarpathia region (20-30's of the XX century)

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the work of the Ukrainian writer and teacher Vasyl Pachovsky in the field of literary fairy tales in order to determine its didactic and educational potential and contribution to the development of national storytelling. The presented materials actualize the possibility of using V. Pachovsky's creative works in the educational process and development of the reading culture of children and youth.

The results of the study showed that, as a Galician emigrant, V. Pachovskyi, thanks to his intellect, pedagogical experience, and understanding of the energetics of the folklore tradition, made the most significant contribution to the development of the Ukrainian literary fairy tale in Transcarpathia region in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century.

The ideological direction and educational potential of the following works written by V. Pachovskyi are shown: «Treasure of the Rus Land»  is a poetic fairy tale, the basis of its storyline is the story of an old fisherman about a priceless treasure hidden at the bottom of the river the Ukrainian language and culture, which descendants must keep sacred; «The Silver Bell» is a fairy tale poem that conveys the idea of ​​the unity of Ukraine based on the synthesis of the history of Zakarpattia being part of Kyivan Rus and the legend of the silver bell preserved since those times; «The Golden Whistle» is a poetic fairy tale for children, which, based on folklore sources, conveys the intrigue of the struggle between the forces of Good and Evil; «About Prince Koriyatovych and the Yellow Serpent Veremiy» is a prose story that attracts the young reader with a connection with his native land, where the epic drama of a fight with a monster unfolded; «Three Kings» is fairy-tale-fantasy poetry, where historically distant legendary figures of Transcarpathia, personifying different periods of the liberation struggle, are interwoven into the plot lines; «Prince Lyaborets. The Myth of the Silver Land» is an epic poem, a fairy tale that attracts the reader with a retrospective of a dramatic battle history, which reflects the significant events of the thousand-year history of Transcarpathia.

The research materials are distinguished by their scientific novelty and practical significance, because in a synthesized form they highlight the creative work of V. Pachovsky in the realm of Ukrainian storytelling and the possibilities of its use in the educational process of preschool and school education institutions.
