Abstract

The article highlights the essential positions on the problem of raising the social maturity of the individual, the attributive features of this phenomenon in the scientific discourse. The need to educate a socially mature personality with formed social guidelines, a valuable attitude to social norms, to other people, capable of active inclusion in the social life of the country, to the implementation of social changes and active self-change, has been updated. The growing scientific interest in personality maturity as one of the dominant characteristics of the processes of social functioning in the modern world of humanity in general has been revealed. A scientific controversy regarding the content and objective criteria characterizing human maturity has been established. The essence of the definition of «personal maturity» in reference publications and scientific visions of scientists has been specified. The features of personal maturity are singled out: responsibility, decentering, depth of experience, life philosophy, tolerance, autonomy, contact, self-acceptance, creativity, synergy. Personal maturity of a person is facilitated by the development of decentering the ability to understand the position of another person, to be able to look at the situation from his point of view, which is clearly visible during the transition from adolescence to young adulthood, when young people begin to take on adult roles, think about their future, about themselves as members of society, and become aware of the obstacles that stand in the way of realizing dreams. It has been established that the phenomenon of social maturity is more studied in Western psychological theory and accumulates the most general ideas about the social qualities of a person, the social functions performed by him, the degree of ownership of an individual by his social essence, and therefore, it is considered from different angles of individual self-determination. It is summarized that the attribute of the social maturity of an individual is a reflection of a two-way relationship, in which not only the activity forms the social qualities of the individual, but also the personal potential accumulated in the individual is embodied for the improvement of this activity and social relations.
