Moodle platform in teaching of foreign language during distance learning in higher educational establishments

Abstract

The article deals with  the Moodle platform in distance learning.  It was developed by the Australian Dougiamas in 1998. A number of possibilities, advantages and disadvantages of using Moodle platform for distance learning in foreign language in higher education institutions have been defined. Thanks to the use of innovative technologies in learning English, studing becomes more effective. Virtual learning environments maximize interaction, cooperation and interest in learning new information. Using the Moodle platform for teaching English, teachers can create an environment for lifelong learning with unlimited control, editing, archiving, viewing, etc., and most importantly - for close interaction between students and the teacher. It is important that the technical and computer training of both teachers and students to achieve the highest results. Therefore, it is recommended the holding of trainings and seminars for improving the professional English level of teachers who administer Moodle courses and students who use them. Using the Moodle platform for studying of foreign language the teacher gets a powerful modern resource. He can present material, control and mark results of students’ activity. It was presented a large number of tools that help in this process. This platform is the most useful for distance learning although it can also be used successfully for mixed learning. Today there are certain disadvantages that are objective and subjective. Therefore, to get the best results, teachers and students need to have the desire to learn, to work in this initial environment, not to be afraid and change their view of the modern process of teaching and learning foreign languages. Further theoretical and practical work in this direction is quite relevant today.
