The formation of citizenship as an integrated quality of the student’s personality in the conditions of the institution of general secondary education
Abstract
The article examines the concept of «citizenship» as an integrated quality of the student’s personality, as well as the peculiarities of the formation of citizenship of the student’s personality in institutions of general secondary education. It has been substantiated the need for civic education of students in a modern institution of general secondary education
It has been analyzed the context of revealing the outlined problem, the definition of the concept of «citizenship» as a category of sociology, political science, psychology, and pedagogy. It has been revealed that «citizenship» is an integrative, fundamental, spiritual, and moral quality of an individual, which is manifested in the duty to serve society, the Homeland, to revive and multiply the achievements of one’s state, it is emphasized that citizenship is a quality of an individual that is not given to a person formally, and is brought up in it and is considered as the final result of its civic education. Among educational directions, civic, patriotic, and national education is gaining the most relevance today as the fundamental ones that meet the urgent requirements and challenges of modern times, and lay the foundations for the formation of conscious current and future generations.
Integration processes in Ukraine are taking place against the background of a surge of patriotic feelings and new attitudes to the history, culture, traditions, and customs of the Ukrainian people. Today, new approaches to the formation of citizenship as a sense of personality are needed. Since more than 47% of the total volume of educational influences on the student’s personality is carried out by the educational environment, therefore the responsibility is greater, and more opportunities are opened.
It is important that each institution of general secondary education becomes for each student a center of becoming a citizen of Ukraine, ready to take responsibility, to build the country as a sovereign, independent, legal, social state, to promote unity and the establishment of civil peace and harmony in society.
The most important priority is the formation of a valuable attitude of the individual toward the Ukrainian people, the Motherland, the state, and the nation.
