Case-study technology in the productive teaching of mathematics in the New Ukrainian School
Abstract
The article analyzes case-study technology as a modern teaching method in the educational process. The main attention is focused on the method of using case-study technology in teaching mathematics in the conditions of the New Ukrainian School as an innovative tool for the formation of competences. The essence of the method is characterized, which consists in providing an opportunity to combine theory with practice on the example of a specific situation from real life.
The description of the situation simultaneously requires the solution of practical tasks and the actualization of a set of knowledge that must be mastered by students during the study of the topic before the proposed event. The purpose of training is outlined using the case study technology, which forms the ability to correctly analyze the situation, find out the essence of the problem, identify the reasons for its appearance, consider possible options for its solution and choose the most optimal of them, make a final decision and put it into action.
The content of the case and its approximate structure with a certain sequence of parts, which has an educational content, are disclosed. A technological scheme for creating a case is proposed, taking into account the peculiarities of its adaptation to use in teaching mathematics. An example of the application of the case-study technology during the study of the content line in mathematics in the 5th grade «Geometric shapes. Geometric quantities» and modeled a lesson according to the program of the New Ukrainian School on the topic «Area of a rectangle and a square. Solving geometry problems».
The concept of «productive learning» is presented as the organized cooperation of the teacher and students, aimed at maximum assimilation and awareness of the educational material with further application of the acquired knowledge, abilities and skills in practical activities and life situations. Tips on how to dive into a case-study technology are offered.
Prospects for further scientific investigations require the issue of integration into the educational process of the New Ukrainian School of case-study technology as a method of productive learning during the study of mathematics.
