The formation of national identity of student youth as a condition for the consolidation of ukrainian society in today’s realities

Abstract

The article reveals the issue of affirming common values as the basis of national identity, and the nature of value orientations of Ukrainian society, and also explores the peculiarities of modern patriotic education of schoolchildren in the context of the formation of national identity. It has been noted that this process was significantly intensified under the conditions of Russian aggression, when the entire Ukrainian people united into a single whole, defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, democratic values, human rights, and freedoms.

It has been noted that in the conditions of increasing modern threats and challenges, national-patriotic education is an important security factor, as it is aimed at the formation of the national identity of student youth as a condition for the consolidation of Ukrainian society, and its readiness to defend its Homeland. Emphasis is placed on the fact that patriotism is the basis of the formation of national self-awareness and identity. It is outlined that, in its essence, national identity is a multidimensional concept that can integrate cultural, ethnic, professional, regional, or other types of identities, preserving each of them.

It has been found that in the crisis period of nation-building, the system of national values changes and the need for the formation of a positive national identity and national unity for the further national self-affirmation of each individual citizen and the Ukrainian state becomes acute. Different views of scientists on the essence of the concept of “national identity” in the direction of domestic and foreign of research, The main principles of the organization of the process of education of national solidarity among students in the conditions of a general secondary education institution are characterized.

Thus, it is noted that in the conditions of Russian aggression, the active form of national identity is taking place, which is primarily based on the support of the culture and language of the titular Ukrainian ethnic group, the education of patriotism, and the formation of the Ukrainian political nation. It is noted that one of the directions of patriotic education is the popularization of Ukrainian history and national traditions and the implementation of the state policy of memory.
