Educational potential of Vasyl Barvinskyi's piano works

Abstract

The article is devoted to the main directions of educational influences of the piano heritage of Vasyl Barvinskyi. Prominent Ukrainian artist of the first half and middle of the twentieth century. His multifaceted creative and public activities for more than thirty years essentially guided the professional musical life of Halychyna at that time. The composer's piano works, from the simplest miniatures to much more complex pieces such as the Sonata, Suite on Ukrainian Themes, Love cycle, and Piano Concerto, are steadily returning to the repertoire of musicians. Not only in western Ukraine, as they did at the end of the last century. Numerous professional pianists, including those working outside of Ukraine are actively involved in performing Vasyl Barvinskyi's music. His compositional heritage has become an integral part of the Ukrainian piano school.

Well-conceived, carefully planned work in the classroom of a musical instrument (piano), based on the educational potential of Vasyl Barvinskyi's piano works, will allow to form a proper civic position of the younger generation, to nurture their love for national art: folk and professional.

It is hard to overestimate both the purely artistic and didactic value of the composer's piano opuses. Vasyl Barvinskyi's creative heritage fosters exquisite musical taste, interest in learning about musical and artistic systems of different eras and, above all, stylistic innovations in twentieth-century music.

 Certain sustainability of musical and linguistic features of the composer's piano pieces contributes to the development of independent creative thinking in the context of mastering the basic properties of Vasyl Barvinskyi's style based on the composer's works available at a particular stage of instrumental training. The artist's exquisite, skillful compositions of varying levels of difficulty require and, accordingly, motivate the musician's performance growth. Their beauty is the best incentive to develop the ability to perform piano works.
