Students tutoring activity at higher educational institutions of Ukraine
Abstract
The article, based on theoretical and applied approaches, analyzes the peculiarities of students tutoring activity at higher educational institutions of Ukraine.
It is noted that it was the European experience that served as an example for the initiation and development of the tutoring institute at higher educational institutions in Ukraine. Tutoring support assumes that the tutor is a senior student of the university who, on a volunteer basis or for a fee determined by the university, provides assistance to another student or a group of students for the purpose of academic and cultural adaptation, as well as in the process of mastering a certain academic discipline with the aim of deepening knowledge, skills formation skills and academic success level increase, and therefore the quality of educational services provided by the higher educational institution.
Attention is focused on the fact that tutor support should not be limited to clear duties and reports on their fulfillment, because this is a rather dynamic process and depends on the needs of specific tutees at a certain time. It is necessary to determine the directions of work, but it is worth avoiding the formalization of the process itself so that tutors can creatively and actively interact with tutees.
It was emphasized that today one more activity of tutors should be singled out – this is assistance in the adaptation and socialization of students from among the internally displaced persons (IDPs), that is, those who were forcibly resettled due to the war in our country. An important aspect of tutor support is work with foreign students. Tutors can speed up the adaptation process of such students, because this process, in addition to the educational and everyday component, also includes familiarization with the culture of the country, region, customs, moral norms and social challenges.
Today, it is necessary to create centers and departments for the tutoring support provision at higher educational institutions, in which senior year students will be involved under the guidance of the experienced teachers-mentors.
